I just got off a coaching call with a brilliant, heart-centered woman who’s been struggling with money mindset blocks and not knowing who or what to believe. She’s trying so hard to build stability, security, and freedom in her life – and you know what she keeps hearing from money mindset influencers?
“Just stay happy and grateful, and money will come to you.” And honestly? That is such a crock of absolute shit.
What Are Money Mindset Blocks?
Money mindset blocks are the hidden beliefs, fears, and protective strategies that keep you stuck financially. Influencers will tell you that your only block is not “vibrating high enough.” But that’s not how real life or real trauma healing works.
If focusing only on feeling happy and grateful brought money, there wouldn’t be a single rich, miserable asshole on this planet. But guess what? There are plenty. And they’re doing just fine financially while being absolutely wretched human beings.
Because money doesn’t flow to people just because they’re “good” or “grateful” or “high vibe enough.” Money flows for all sorts of reasons: systemic privilege, generational wealth, luck, exploitation, brilliant value-based service, capitalism, scarcity-based marketing, investments, or a hundred other variables. It’s complicated and it’s human. But this positivity-only narrative turns money mindset blocks into a moral purity test – ignoring the deeper parts of you that actually need healing.
Why Ignoring Your Negative Money Mindset Emotions Doesn’t Work
The idea that you just need to “think happy thoughts” is not only simplistic – it’s actively harmful, especially for trauma-impacted people. Because here’s what’s really happening under the surface: When you have parts of yourself that hold fear, doubt, or even anger around money, those parts aren’t broken. They aren’t “low vibe.” They’re protecting you.
They’re carrying old wounds from past experiences – times you were betrayed, stolen from, abandoned, punished for asking for what you needed, or humiliated for wanting more. In Parts Work, we see these fears and doubts as protective strategies. They’re trying to keep you safe, stable, and alive. They’re saying:
- “We can’t raise our prices. What if we lose everyone and end up alone?”
- “We can’t invest in that program. What if we waste our last savings and become homeless?”
- “We can’t start that business. What if we fail and confirm what everyone always thought about us?”
And you can’t bypass these money mindset blocks with forced positivity. Ignoring them doesn’t heal them. It silences them – until they sabotage everything to finally be heard.
My Own Money Mindset Heartbreak
I know this sabotage because I did it. I spent years ignoring my protective parts around money, thinking that if I could just stay happy and be more grateful, the negativity would go away. Years chanting affirmations like:
“Abundance flows to me with ease. Everything is working out. Just feel good.”
And while I was earning more and thinking I was doing things “right”, I was also busy bypassing my fear. Thus I missed every red flag with my now ex-husband, who was compulsively borrowing money behind my back without my knowledge. Hundreds of thousands of dollars disappeared under my nose because I kept telling myself,
“Focus on feeling happy and grateful. Don’t worry. It will all work out.”
Spoiler alert: it didn’t.
Happiness and gratitude didn’t protect me from betrayal. They didn’t protect my finances. They didn’t protect my mental health, my home, or my future. Why? Because happiness and gratitude are not substitutes for listening to yourself and clearing your real money mindset blocks.
How to Heal Your Money Mindset Blocks
Healing your money mindset blocks isn’t about ignoring the parts of you that are scared. It’s about listening to them. Honoring them. Learning what they’re afraid of – and why. Because when you finally sit down with those parts, you realize:
They’re not trying to block you from abundance.
They’re trying to block you from harm.
And that’s a radically different conversation. True money mindset healing sounds like:
“Hey, part of me that’s terrified to invest – what are you afraid will happen?”
“Hey, part of me that freezes every time I try to raise my prices – what story are you carrying from my past?”
“Hey, part of me that thinks I’m selfish for wanting more – who taught you that? Whose voice is that really?”
When you listen, you build trust with yourself. You create internal safety. And from there, you can make decisions rooted in clarity, dignity, and self-leadership – not bypassing. Your healing comes when you honor every single part of yourself.
The happy parts. The grateful parts. The terrified, doubtful, protective parts. Even the angry parts that say, “This is unfair and I’m sick of it.” Because that anger, grief, and fear is just as sacred as your joy. And ignoring it doesn’t make you enlightened. Listening to it – with compassion and curiosity – is what makes you free.
